BJP set to eye on coming panchayat elections, bypolls during Amit Shah’s visit to Karnataka.

BENGALURU: The ruling BJP, buoyed up by its success in the recent gram panchayat polls, is set to prepare the party for the upcoming zilla and taluk panchayat election as well as bypolls to a Lok Sabha and two assembly seats during Union home minister Amit Shah’s two-day visit to Karnataka on January 15-16.

The senior BJP leader is expected to attend official as well as party events in the state. The BJP is working on the details of his tour programme, said party members.

Karnataka’s 30 districts and 226 taluks are scheduled to go to the polls in May, which will test the popularity of both the BJP and chief minister BS Yediyurappa among voters.

The Lok Sabha seat of Belagavi, which fell vacant due to the death of Union minister Suresh Angadi and the assembly seats of Maski and Basavakalyan are set to face bypolls.
