Although International travel has been halted due to Covid, there has been an increase in the number of Indians applying for citizenship in other countries, reports the Times of India.
According to the 2020 figures, Indians are the most likely to obtain citizenship in other countries. The USA, which was sixth in 2019, is now second. It is reported that political uncertainties and the spread of Covid have prompted citizens to abandon America.
Pakistan, South Africa, and Nigeria rank third, fourth and fifth respectively. It is estimated that 7000 rich people have already left India in 2019. According to the Global Wealth Migration Review, India was the second country in the world to have the richest people renounce citizenship and migrate to other countries. In 2020, it has risen to 62.6 percent.
According to the report, most Indians want to migrate to Canada and Australia. The rich are migrating under the Citizenship by Investment scheme.
