No seditious element in ‘Toolkit’: Deepak Gupta, Former Judge of Supreme Court

Former Supreme Court judge Deepak Gupta has revealed that the toolkit did not contain any illegal or anti-national content and asserted that every citizen has the right to protest peacefully against the government. Speaking on the NDTV debate, Deepak Gupta also said that criticizing the government did not amount to treason.

“The crime of sedition dates back to colonial times. At that time it was a serious crime punishable by life imprisonment. Unfortunately, that law is being abused”, said Former Judge Deepak Gupta and expressed that the law was being used to crush dissent.

“The arrest of environmental activist Disha Ravi is an attack on freedom of expression. I haven’t seen anything that provokes violence in the toolkit. There is nothing seditious in this. Protesters may or may not agree. That’s something else. ” – Deepak Gupta, Former Judge of Supreme Court
