Popular Front of India’s Udupi District President Nazeer Ahmed said “it is condemnable that the BJP and Sangh Parivar are seeking political gains in provoking communal sentiments over the issue of Udupi district’s Kalmath Masjid in Kodavur.”

The mosque, which has more than 200 years of history and adequate records to support it, is being portrayed as an illegal building. However, this masjid was legally registered in 1993, when 67 cents of land’s ownership was lawfully obtained by the Waqf. After the District Collector inspected the Masjid site, a Gazette Notification was also issued in March 2020. According to records, the RTC is also in the name of Masjid. Above all, this masjid has been funded by the government treasury since 1908, which has been continuing even today. Despite knowing all these facts, the Sangh Parivar is trying to create confusion among the people by fabricating myths on the matter. The CCTV, which was installed in the Masjid space for caution was dismantled in the presence of the police. Despite District Collector’s order to clear the encroachment in the Masjid, the order has not been put to action. Obstacles were needlessly created by forcibly locking the gate which was on the way to the Masjid. Now they have even installed a gate to the footpath nearby, and secured the lock on it, and restricted the entry into the Masjid.

Although the Masjid has the proper documents, and despite there being orders to clear the trespassers, the administration is not reining back on the corrupt practices of the Sangh Parivar. Without bending to the pressure being put by the BJP-Sangh Parivar, the district administration and the police department must enforce legal action on the Masjid issue, defeat the elaborate ruses of the Sangh Parivar, and maintain peace and harmony in the region”, Nazeer Ahmed has demanded.
