The State Secretary of the Popular Front of India, A.K. Ashraf expressed that, “Although the Popular Front has nothing to do with the DJ Halli-KG Halli incident, as part of an ongoing conspiracy, certain media outlets have resorted to linking the organization to the incident” he said.
“Congress leader Sampath Kumar and his associates are the root cause of the DJ Halli-KG Halli riots. In the charge sheet of nearly 70 pages filed by the CCB, of the state police, Sampath Kumar and his team have been identified as the key riot conspirators. But it is noteworthy that the NIA has now placed the burden of the riot on the SDPI in its controversial charge sheet.”
“Earlier, the RSS-BJP-sponsored fact-finding report was prepared in the name of Citizens for Democracy in Bangalore. In that report, the dysfunctional failure of the system of governance was concealed and the riots were communalized by blaming the incident on a particular community. It has been observed that now the NIA’s charge sheet is based on the same flawed fact-finding report. At the time, The Popular Front had warned the aforementioned fact-finding report was being prepared as part of a systematic conspiracy. The NIA investigation is also part of the same strategy, which has now been substantiated with the submission of the charge-sheet. In the context of the widespread allegation that the BJP government is misusing the NIA, it is natural to have doubts about the charge-sheet.”
“The DJ Halli and KG Halli riots were political events that caused much destruction. In the course of the investigation, revelations suggesting that Naveen – who made an abusive post on the Prophet- is a BJP activist, to the involvement of Congress leaders in planning the incident, were exposed. The incident, which could have been otherwise resolved peacefully, highlighted the negligence of the police and the failure of the BJP government. In the meantime, the fact that SDPI leader Muzammil Pasha was trying to calm the aggressive crowd by appealing them to use lawful, legal means to protest had also made headlines in the mainstream media. However, the UAPA was used to imprison him and to this day, he remains in jail. But, Congress leader Sampath Raj, who has serious allegations against him has been released on bail.”
“Large numbers of Muslims who have been sent to jail citing UAPA, are also denied bail. The ruling class has held a prejudiced outlook throughout this incident and resorted to displaying a discriminatory attitude. Right from the beginning, it was reported that many innocents were wrongfully arrested in connection with the incident. In this regard, Popular Front will continue to wage a legal and democratic struggle”, A.K Ashraf said.
