In the Gujrat riots that occurred on February 28, 2002, 68 people, including Congress MLA Ehsan Jafri, were killed in the Gulberg Society in Ahmedabad. Ehsan Jafri’s wife, Zakia Jafri, who filed an appeal challenging the SIT’s clean chit to the Gujrat’s then Chief Minister Narendra Modi will be receiving a hearing from the Supreme Court on the matter on April 13, sources in the media revealed.

The SIT had previously issued a clean chit to 63 people, including Modi and senior government officials, and filed a report closing the case whilst stating that there would be “no legal action” taken against them. But Jafri challenged this in the court and the Gujarat High Court rejected Jafri’s appeal against the SIT’s decision.

However, Zakia Jafri later filed a petition in the Supreme Court in 2018 challenging this order.
