First Case Registered Under Newly Amended Anti-Cow Slaughter Law

Chikmagalur : The first case under the controversial Anti-Cow slaughter Law was registered in Chikmagalur. The law was recently passed despite glaring resistance from opposition parties.

A group of youths reportedly intercepted two containers that were carrying 34 animals, which was en-route to Mangaluru from Ranebennur in Haveri district on Friday morning. The containers were stopped near the Tanikodu check post, where one of the driver reportedly fled from the grasp of the youths. The second driver was reportedly brutalized by a group of youngsters. A case has been registered against the drivers of the two containers at the Sringeri station.

Both the containers, along with cattle were seized by the police. Abid Ali, who was brutalized by a group of youths, has been admitted to a Community Hospital at Sringeri.
This is the first case under the newly amended Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill-2020. If conviction under the new law is proven, the accused can be sentenced to a jail term ranging from 3 to 7 years and can be penalized with a fine ranging from 50,000 rupees to 5 lakh rupees.
