Striking Transport Workers receive another shock|271 drivers, operators suspended

Bengaluru: Transport workers’ strike has stepped into 9th day, demanding the government for a hike in wages along with the implementation of recommendations made by the sixth pay commission. The state government has issued a shocking news to the transport workers on strike with the BMTC instituting a disciplinary action against the striking bus operators. On account of being absent from duty, a total of 271 drivers and operators have been suspended.


In the last eight days, 495 employees have been disciplined. For obstructing the work of on-duty employees and attacking the buses, protesting workers have been charged under ESMA (Essential Services Maintenance Act) and KESMA (Karnataka Essential Services Management Act) respectively.
