► People of Kollegala did not permit the cremation of the deceased even in his own land.
Chamarajanagar: The PFI organization, which has been performing dignified burial for the covid infected deceased, is once again in the news for its humanitarian service. Yet again, PFI organizations activists have shown humanity by performing funeral services for the deceased elderly. Frightened of covid, the villagers who feared to go near the dead body, obstructed the burial of the deceased in his own land. Finally, PFI activists carried the corpse on a bike and performed the funeral. The incident took place at Aaladahalli of Kollegaala Taluk.
Madhava, who had no family, died at his residence, and suspecting he had died of Covid, the villagers did not come forward to perform the funeral. The villagers assumed that the deceased may have been infected without even doing a Covid test and hence refused to assist for the funeral.
Later, PFI activists in Chamarajanagar got the message, and when the funeral was being carried out wearing the PPE kit, the villagers protested saying we will not permit the cremation in our village. It is said that there was no assistance from the Taluk authority and refused to provide a vehicle for the funeral too, showing inhumanity.
Sighting no vehicle, PFI activist tied the corpse to a ladder at the back of a two-wheeled vehicle in which they arrived. The PFI committee of Kollegala, performed an dignified burial, after the police of the local station on receiving the news, arrived at the location and provided a place in the pasture for the burial.
