January 26th Parade Rehearsal Underway; Farmers’ tractor parade held at Delhi borders

New Delhi: Farmer Protesters, who had announced that they would hold a tractor parade on Republic Day, conducted a preceding rehearsal at the Singhu Border in Delhi on Thursday. The tractors paraded on the borders of Delhi on January 7th in preparation for the main event scheduled to occur on January 26th.

For the past 43 days, the farmer had been protesting on the frontiers of all the major Delhi roads, and so far seven rounds of talks with the government have failed.

The farmers’ organizations had recently announced that they were protesting the government’s attempt to persuade the farmers to accept the farm bills while refusing their demands to withdraw the bills.

Hundreds of tractors took out a procession in rehearsal to the main event. The tractor parade had enthusiastic participation from adolescents to 70-year-old senior citizens.
Speaking to the representatives from the Mass Media Foundation, the protesting farmers said, “We are going to have a tractor parade on January 26. About 3000 tractors from Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh will participate in the parade”, they revealed.

Women were also seen driving tractors during the parade. Farmer leaders said that a large number of women would be participating in the January 26th procession.

Farmers who shouted slogans against the Modi government and the three anti-farmer bills said that there would not stop the fight.

Amidst agitation by the farmers, the government will be meeting with the farmers for the Eighth time on January 11th and the agenda states that two main demands are set to be discussed. Firstly, there will be discussions on the withdrawal of the three farm bills and secondly, the talks surrounding the minimum support price will also be undertaken.
