Muslims cannot imagine becoming Prime Minister: Ghulam Nabi Azad

New Delhi: In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that India is in a situation where Muslim leaders cannot even dream of becoming the Prime Minister. He also said one cannot envision the possibility of Muslims obtaining the Prime Minister’s title in this country.

In the early days, 99% of the leaders used to call me for election campaigns. Today that has been reduced to 40%. In the 1979 general election, I have contested from Maharashtra with 95% Hindu votes. Despite Janata Party’s fielding of a Hindu candidate against me, I still won”, Azad said.

Azad has denied rumours of joining the BJP. “I’ll join the BJP when black snow covers Kashmir. People who spread rumours are unaware of who I am”, he said.

Modi had shed tears during his farewell address to Azad, who recently retired from the Rajya Sabha. He had also said that his doors would always be open for the retired leader during the farewell occasion.
