A petition has been filed in the Karnataka High Court challenging the state government’s decision surrounding the Anti-Cow Slaughter ordinance. In this regard, a notice was also sent to the state government.
After hearing the petition filed by Mohammed Arif Jameel, a resident of Pillanna Gardens in Bengaluru, a divisional bench comprising of Chief Justice Abhay Srinivas Oka and Justice Sachin Shankar Magadam issued notice to the state government.
It has been argued that the provisions of the ordinance are reportedly in Violation of the right to livelihood, Violation of the right to conduct trade or business, as per Article 21 of the Constitution, and also in violation of the fundamental right under Article 19 (G) of the Constitution of India.
Prohibiting animal slaughter in the country has a direct impact on the employment and business of those working in slaughterhouses. Applicants have expressed fear that citizens will be deprived of their right to choose food in their petition.
