Delhi: The Head of the Republic Channel and the fake TRP hero Arnab Goswami has been summoned by the Delhi court for his alleged involvement in the conspiracy in which his channel broadcasted a distorted video of the interview with the Public Liaison Officer of the Popular Front of India in a ruse to bring the organization a bad name. After careful consideration of the appeal filed by Dr. M. Shamoon, who is the Public Relations officer of the PFI, Gagandeep Jindal, an additional senior civil judge in the Saket District Court in Delhi has directed Arnab to appear before the court on the 27th of May.

What is the background of the incident?

An individual claiming to be a research student had contacted the PFI’s public relations officer, Dr. Shamoon, and elaborated on the need for violent protests against the government in the anti-CAA fight at Shaheen Bagh. However, Shamoon interrupted the suggestion and opposed it by describing the struggles that his organization had undertaken on the democratic path. But, the Republic Channel edited Shamoon’s words and resorted to distorting the video to depict that he favoured violent protests against the government, and named the unlawful reporting as ‘Sting Operation against PFI’ and broadcasted the distorted video. Opposing this, Dr. Shamoon filed an appeal in the court against the Republic Channel by stating that the Republic Channel’s actions had not just brought personal loss but caused a loss to the whole country.

“As a Medical Doctor, I visit countless patients every day, regardless of their religion or caste. The video against me was broadcasted around the world, which has disrupted my career and personal life. Apart from this, the channel has also uploaded videos against me on YouTube and Twitter, and therefore I am requesting the court to direct the channel to remove it from there”, Dr. Shamoon appealed.

Dr. Shamoon has filed a one-rupee human rights lawsuit against the channel. Advocates Abdul Samad and Shakeel Abbas argued in the court on his behalf.
