AK Ashraf, State Secretary of the Popular Front of India, has said that the case filed against Rakesh Tikait, leader of the United Kisan Morcha, for his impromptu speech during the massive farmer’s meeting in Shimoga, is an attempt to stifle democratic voices.

Farmers of this country have been protesting along the Delhi border for more than a hundred days demanding the repeal of anti-farmer farm laws. While the farmers’ protest is embarrassing to the central government, it is not going to listen to the voice of the protest due to its arrogance. Despite many attempts to deflect these protests, the Modi government has not been successful. Now, the case filed against Tikait is part of a similar crackdown. The fact that the BJP government has adopted a similar pattern to suppress dissenting voices is a known reality.

Currently in the country, the totalitarian government is making attempts to suppress all voices of struggle by stifling their freedom of expression. All citizens should unite to fight against such anti-constitutional and anti-democratic measures of the fascist forces”, urged AK Ashraf.
